about

Tracklisting only for the vinyl :
1 - Mama (Remastered)
2 - Mama (David Walters Remix)
3 - Mama (Patchworks Remix)

David Walter’s activities in front of and behind the camera kept him away from the musical studios for several years. Five of those years spent travelling the world for “Les Nouveaux Explorateurs”, the French TV channel, Canal+, to meet the gatekeepers to the musical hearts of Africa, South America & Asia.

These rewarding experiences gave David time to digest what he’d experienced. Now David Walters has chosen a path of writing and performing, this route that led him to the prolific producer from Lyon, in the form of Patchworks (aka Mr President, aka Voilàà Sound System, aka Da Break...) The two musical masterminds often accustomed to composing, playing and recording their own music, soon tuned in to each other and quickly realized they were on the same frequencies.

With Patchworks, David found the type of sound engineer he was looking for and the duo were soon off treading the right musical path.

Ahead of his upcoming album in 2020 on Heavenly Sweetness, here’s is the first taste, ‘Mama’. A track in which the balafon’s woody resonance takes centre stage, some meditative flute and the female choruses give David Creole roots some real shine. His Caribbean grandfather exiled to New York but true the the title of this track, Mama, a dedication to his grandmother, who is the real star here.

David Walters thought, conceived and produced the track in close collaboration with Patchworks. In the wake of the original version, David and Patchworks took the track, locked themselves away in the studio to come away with a total reinterpretation and new personal take on the track.

Hammering bass and snare drum hits, David entrusted the direction of rhythmic to Patchworks and these new digital elements have transformed the original softness into a new West Indies boiling example of soundsystem. New Synths lines add further textures over the hum of the bass, with hypnotic powerful riddims taking care of the rest.

Two remixes with two different atmospheres.
The Patchworks scene isa jazz-funk workout, echoes of Roy Ayers and Lonnie Liston Smith. Powerful drums, enrobing bass and the Fender Rhodes that becomes a highlight. Motivated further by an irrepressible groove that meshes so well with the hands of the balafon player.

Never two without three.
From Guadeloupe, at the Debs studio, the temple of Caribbean music, the producers Déni-Shain and Mister Francky delivers a dancefloor remix that sails in the same waters that the David Walters original track 'Mama' from his upcoming EP."

//////
